Chimera is an album of acousmatic music composed between fall 2022 and winter 2024. While the compositions don’t have a uniform or thematic through line, they are related in that they represent the full body of my acousmatic work since I completed Think in 2017. Following Think my focus was on styles and compositional approaches outside of the acousmatic medium, though in the late summer of 2022 I felt the urge to start working with sound again. I began recording new sound objects, experimenting with form, and utilizing tools and processors that I hadn’t used in previous works.

While each piece should be taken on its own merits, the collection of work that makes up Chimera is related in that each composition is a representative timestamp of my focuses and interests at the time during which it was written. With each piece I had a goal in mind to achieve, be it technical, compositional, narrative, or a combination of goals. In some cases I feel I was successful, in other less successful, though every piece is a step toward achieving an aesthetic goal that I’ve always felt I’m close to grasping, but is always just slightly out of reach. The pieces on this album are my most recent, and I would argue closest, advances in achieving that goal.
